But, of course, you can also find excellent Gibsons. Tokai has excellent quality control so there are very few duds. If you don't mind the modern features of standard Gibsons, things become trickier.īecause Gibson has poor quality control which means that *some* of their standard factory models are just rubbish. They are not made in the Japanese Tokai factory (obviously) and, although they may be great bang for buck LPs, they're not in the league of made-in-Japan Tokais or Gibsons.Īre the made-in-Japan (MIJ) Tokais better than Gibsons? You've got to define what you're talking about.Ī bottom of the range MIJ Tokai is more like a '50s Gibson than the modern standard Gibson Les Pauls - even though it costs a fraction of the price. If you already have an Epiphone, the chinese Tokais are not going to be a huge step up. ![]() They stopped calling them that and started using the name Love Rock because of the threat of legal action from Gibson. The Les Paul Reborns are very old Tokais. ![]()
